Rejoice
Words and Music by Todd TwiningAll the earth rejoice
Your Creator reigns
As the only awesome God
The Alpha and the Omega
Who was, is, and is to come
Let the oceans roar and the mountains sing
He provides for all He has made
So be comforted as He rules with grace
Rejoice, all the earth, rejoice
All the world rejoice
For the baby comes
As a humble prince in the night
The Word made flesh, Emmanuel
The Everlasting Light
Let the warmth of heaven reach the coldest heart
With the gospel of His grace
For His heel will bruise the serpent’s head
Rejoice, all the world, rejoice
All the church rejoice
For your King returns
On a white horse wearing a crown
He will break the sky with the angel’s shout
Descending from the clouds
Then the dead will rise from the land and sea
All His people will ascend
We will reign with Him for eternity
Rejoice, all the church, rejoice!
In trying to be more conscious in my worship, I’ve started choosing specific times, places and moments when I will crank up some music that speaks to my heart, plug in my ear-buds and listen to the Scripture on my phone, a sermon from my pastor, or escape to my bedroom for some reading from Tabletalk magazine. This has been a special time when I specifically turn my mind from the mundane (or amazingly fun) tasks of everyday wife-mom-housekeeping life and work in being like my Savior by listening to or reading material that exalts Him and brings His mindset foremost in my heart.
One of the albums that has become a favorite of is called Savior: Celebrating the Mystery of God Become Man CD. Not musically complex or even that awe-inspiring, it’s the words to the songs that catch me. The original intent of the album is that of a Christmas album, but it ends up being so much more. The simple acoustic style and lyrical quality make for an easily remembered and hummed album, I will find myself singing snippets of this album throughout the day, and hearing my children sing the choruses is truly amazing.
Even if it was intended to be a Christmas album, Savior is a truly beautiful album of worship that should be listened to throughout the year to remind us of Christ’s holiness and Who He is. Besides, I have no qualms about listening to “Christmas” music throughout the year, and regularly listen to pieces such as Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, or Christmas Oratorio, in the middle of summer. The Son of God came down and laid aside His crown
Chorus:
Born without great renown, this Sovereign One
All holiness and might, all glory shining bright
Have come to earth this night in Mary’s son
O come, let us adoreO Christ the Lord, our hope and Savior
Son of God yet made like us
O Christ the Lord, our King adored
Born a child, our Lord Jesus
Messiah born so small, asleep in cattle stall
Come to redeem our fall, nailed to a tree
This tiny, helpless child through death would reconcile
The holy God and vile, His grace so free
O come, let us adoreThe Son of God Came Down
